We love all our volunteers and think you are so very deserving; there are not enough ways to say how much we appreciate you!
BUT - I know we can come up with a system fair to all our volunteers.
REMINDER - All those who help on Memorial Day Ceremonies are invited to attend a Burger Feed at the Post after the ceremonies. This means all adults and youngsters who HELP with the ceremonies can come down to the Post for hamburgers and fries. This is the Post’s THANK YOU for helping during this event.
Chelly Thomson - Club Manager 5-14
I want to take a moment to thank Doris for handing the torch to me and getting me off to a good start. She has done so much for this Club over the years and I certainly have some big shoes to fill. I hope you all realize just how much of herself she put into your Post and Club!
Now that I have gotten my feet wet and am getting into the groove of daily operations, I am ready to start implementing a few changes - starting the middle of May to the beginning of June look for a new menu and drink specials. Don’t worry - the changes will be subtle and for the better. If you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.
Here’s to Club 51, all of you members, and especially the best volunteers and staff any Post could have. Looking forward to a bright future.

THRU NEW MEMBERSHIP IN THE SQUADRON IS THE ONLY WAY WE
CAN CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR POST AND VETERANS
ASK SOMEONE TO
Members are the energy source that keeps this post running. We honor our veterans, help the community, and support the post. If you can think of a friend or co-worker who would like to honor their father or grandfather by joining the American Legion? Bring a guest-- it's a nice club. Great people, good food and a few laughs. Your membership is important to city, state and country. Bring your ideas to a meeting (first Thursday).
It takes 80% less resources to keep a member than it does to sign up a new member.
1st Vice Commander
Squadron #51 3-14
Since our last bulletin, we have joined six new members. WELCOME!!! We are now at 93% of our goal number. As of this writing, we need 39 to hit our mark. Those of you who are reading this article and have not paid your 2014 dues, won’t you please do so. The American Legion Auxiliary would appreciate your continued membership and support.

Cookies in March once again went to Afghanistan with the help of Troop Support’s Anita Allen. We had seven volunteers that made 114 dozen cookies, 109 dozen that were sent to the troops. We have had many nice and thankful letters from the different units who received the cookies. Anita is good at stuffing other donated articles in as well—things from Kleenex, hand warmers, snacks, and even rice or soy milk. The troops really enjoy milk with their cookies. This year we have had a total of eight volunteers providing 141.35 hours and driving 662 miles to help bake 901 dozen cookies. Monetary donations from various people and organizations have donated $389.84 and another $125.00 in ingredients. Thank you one and all.
We have a box near the entrance of the Post (inside) in which you can donate items to the troops that can be sent along with the cookies. If you have a large amount or a cash donation give me a call and I will meet you to accept the item. Questions about helping or donating - call me (Linda Helget) at 541-258-5960.
Linda Helget, Chairperson 5-14

POPPY POSTER CONTEST BEGINS
Each year around Memorial Day American Legion Auxiliary volunteers distribute millions of bright red poppies to honor our veterans. By this time all Post #51 members should have received a letter in the mail with two poppies tucked inside. If you did not receive one please call Betty Green at (541)401-3680. Poppies are also available at all times in the Bar area of the Post. The distribution of poppies at Safeway will be May 16 & 17. As you may remember poppy contributions are used exclusively for the support of veterans and their families.
We ask that you wear your poppy proudly at any time, but especially on Memorial Day, to honor our nation’s deceased war heroes, MIA/POW’s, and to show your support of all veterans. Santiam Auxiliary Unit #51 sincerely thanks you for your poppy donation.
Second Vice President
One of my greatest joys has become getting next to Veterans and hearing their wonderful (and sometimes sad) stories. I love getting into the foxholes with you who have proudly served this beautiful country. It is my honor. Many of us are fighting another battle right now. We do not remember as we used to and we have had to slow down because our earthly bodies limit us. The things of the past seem to become our present.
But, I have good news for you today that I hope will encourage you. Our ultimate, eternal commander and chief says this to you, “I have come that you may have LIFE and that LIFE more abundantly.” The ones who believe in Him become more than conquerors. But how can one be more than a conqueror? More than a winner?
We are all terminal. We all die some day. But, we have one more hill to take, one more fight to win. We cannot get any younger but we can become NEW! When we put ourselves into the hands of the Lord and believe in the works He has done on our behalf, we are no longer terminal but eternal. “He that has the Son of God has LIFE and that life is eternally.”
You can win your greatest Battle by trusting God.
Remember our motto - ”God and Country” You have done Country, do not forget God!
Reach out, invite, befriend, call and talk for we are
the brotherhood of American Veterans. I am in prayer for
you and your families. God Bless America!

Please, if you know of a Legion, Auxiliary, or S.A.L. member that is ill, or that has been hospitalized, or is just in need of a "cheer-up" card, contact the chaplain for their respective group so a card or visit can be made.
Sadly, we lost the following comrades recently. They will be missed.
