THE PREAMBLE OF THE
"CONSTITUTION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION"

For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; To maintain law and order: To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; To combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; To make right the master of might; To promote peace and good will on earth; To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

Commanders Input

Election of officers for '06-'07 is scheduled for the May General Meeting. If anyone is interested in an officer position, please contact Ron Matz. If you don't know who Ron Matz is, look for the big guy with the big beard and wears a camo jacket.

A lot of activity has been and is happening at Club 51. The Crab Feed in February was an epi9curean delight. David Roe and his crew prepared some excellent crab. If you missed it you missed a special treat. The Volunteers Appreciation party was a grand party. Dave Troutman and fellow SAL members did a wonderful job. Willy, from Pizza King prepared the pizzas and they were great.

The month of March the club had two big dinners scheduled. One for the Junior Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Awards Banquet and the other for Pheasants Forever. The Post is used for many events

District 3 meeting was held in Florence, March 11th. One member from Post 51 attended.

Post 51 donated a parcel of property to the City of Scio. The property is to be used as a memorial for past and present veterans.

Some improvements are planned for the coming months. A new fire suppression system is being installed in the kitchen area for safety. A painting party is planned for Sunday, April9th. Anyone interested in helping please contact one of the trustees.

A new events calendar is going to be used in the April & May bulletin. The events will be listed by each month with the date, time and function for that date. If you still need the old type calendar, Doris will have one at the bar.

Thank you,
Jack LaFranchise, Commander

Club Committee

Due to changes in the by-laws, nearly all of the club committee had to be replaced. The Club Committee members are: Robert Babcock, Claude Swanson, Richard Dirks and Robert Beal. The Club Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6pm.

Honor Guard

Some of our Honor Guard members have moved out of state and we could use several more members. We attend Veterans' funerals, when requested, to fold and present the flag from the coffin and fire the 21 gun salute. We also attend community functions and attend at our public schools, when requested, to present new flags and instruct the pupils on flag etiquette. The uniforms are provided for anyone that wants to join our group. We do a very important service for our Post and the deceased Veterans families. Please call Frank Farmer at 259-1559 for more information.

Help us give our deceased Heroes their earned last honors!

Donations are accepted to help defray costs of attending funerals.

Used Ink Cartridges

We are still saving ink cartridges. Please bring them and put them in the box in the back hallway over the coat rack.

Adjutant's Letter

First is to express how sad we are with the passing of our Post Adjutant, Dave Standley. Dave was and outstanding Veteran Legionnaire and Adjutant. Dave has friends all over the State and will be missed by all. Dave set a standard that will be hard to follow.

Regulations say that the Post has to have a copy of each member's DD-214, which are your discharge papers.

Please bring a copy in to the Adjutant's office.

Membership is coming in real slow and we need 167 members to renew their dues so we can make goal. If you or someone that you know hasn't renewed yet, please do so as soon as possible. We are almost at the end of our calendar year; that means the election of new Officers will be coming in April. If anyone is interested in being and Officer or a Committee person, you can contact me at 451-1351 or Ron Matz at 451-4400

Ray Johnson
Acting Adjutant

Volunteers of the Month

Volunteer of the month for February was Richard Bishop. Volunteer of the month for March was Jim Beck. Thank you very much fellows. This Post couldn't operate if we didn't have volunteers and we do have many good volunteers.

Thanks again all of you!

Office Vacancy

There is a vacancy for the position of Post Adjutant. There will be an election for this position at the next general meeting,.

Legionnaire of the Month

Legionnaire of the month for February was Karl Kaiser. Legionnaire of the month for March was Willie Bickford. these two legionnaires are outstanding veterans and Post members. When you see them give them a pat on the shoulder and say "Well done Comrade"!
