THE PREAMBLE OF THE
"CONSTITUTION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION"

For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; To maintain law and order: To foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism; To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; To combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; To make right the master of might; To promote peace and good will on earth; To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

Commanders Input

The month of December 2005 for the Post and Club was really busy. The F-Troop dinner was a special event and the post members enjoyed the camaraderie with the F-Troop veterans. The dinner was served to 110 veterans and family members.

The Post Auxiliary gave a Christmas party for the Post children and friends with 30 or more attending.

Dave Roe and his helpers managed the Christmas baskets this year. The Post donated 51 baskets to F-Troop families, 11 through Paul Porter, Post service officer to needy veteran's families in our local area and 10 baskets from calls to the Post for assistance. The baskets were funded by contributions from the Post Harvest Ball, IOOF Lodge and food donations from members and Rollin' Oldies Car Club. It's a worthwhile community program.

In January the Post hosted a District 3 meeting with Commander Dallas McLaren presiding and the Oregon Department's mid-winter conference with Commander Sid Carter presiding. We should be well informed by the end of January.

There are some changes in Post meeting times starting in February 2006. The E-board meeting will be the 1st Tuesday of the month, the Trustees will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and the General meeting and dinner will be the same 3rd Tuesday of the month. The times and dates will be posted in the Examiner's calendar of events. Read the examiner and find out what's happening at the Post and Club 51.

Membership is still an issue, if you haven't paid your 2006 dues you are delinquent.

Thank you,
Jack LaFranchise, Commander

1st Vice Commander

Happy New Year to all the members of Post 51. We had a great year in 2005 and hope we have a good 2006. In 2005 we had several Post functions that were a good time for all. We have a great Post and I'm proud to be a part of it.

I want to thank ALL the people who helped out with the Homecoming for our F-Troop coming back from the war in Iraq. The dinner on December 34d was a huge success. We had a lot of help from all at the Post. Thanks to the Post, 40-8 and SAL, who all helped pay for their dinner and band.

Thanks to all the members who donated a lot of money to the Bar for drink tickets for the troops. Thank you Doris, Becky and Angie for your hard work that night. And, yes, to the ladies who always get us through these big dinners, thank you so much for setting up the tables, serving the meals and for all you do. Finally, thanks to the Vietnam Veterans of America guys who bravely fought in the "other war" for finally getting clean by washing all the dishes, pots and pans. Being a Navy Swabbie, it was nice to see a Marine "George Laswell" in charge of the wash tub!

The Christmas basket program was another success. We had a lot of food donated by a lot of people, so thank you all. We gave out 50 baskets to F-Troop families and they were very thankful for that. Paul Porter gave out 11 baskets to needy Veterans in the area. I also want to thank Linn Gear and Entek for donating boxes for the baskets.

We will be having our Crab Feed on Saturday, February 11th. The crabbing on the coast was delayed a month but now is open. Look in the calendar for more info. We also will have another oyster feed later in the spring.

That's all for now.

Dave Roe
1st Vice Commander

S.A.L.

membership is going well! We need everybody to make sure dues are renewed as soon as possible. By the time you read this Commander Tracy and myself will have been to Winter Convention in Aloha. If you haven't attended, it can be very inspirational.

Later this year we will be changing our meeting night to a Friday or Saturday night. Hopefully by next Examiner we can decide.

In late March S.A.L. will be having a surprise event. So much of a surprise I don't even know what it is going to be. Keep your eyes open for more information.

In closing I am proud to say that Commander Tracy has fixed the wall around the sink and dishwasher in the kitchen. The project was funded and finished by the Sons!

Respectfullty Submitted,
Drew Lindsay Adjutant

Presidents Corner

The holidays are over and our lives should be quieting down a little. Some of us are beginning to think about what to do with our time, ha, ha. If you do find yourself with a little extra time find a way to volunteer with your favorite charity. Remember, the things we do for other charities count towards your volunteer hours with the Auxiliary. There are veterans and their families out in the community who do not necessarily frequent the Legion but they still need our help. If you volunteer at your child's school you are probably helping children and/or grandchildren of veterans. If you volunteer at the hospital you are also likely to be helping them. All of these volunteer hours will count for our hours. So, please at the end of every month add up those hours and drop them off at the Post for me so I can count them into our hours. Every hour helps out out community and our veterans.

Judy Matz, President
