Just to remind everyone
that if your dues are not paid before January 1, 2012, your key card will not
work. You will not be allowed into the Post except to pay your dues. I will be
at the door on January 1st to take membership dues.
“Suggestions” Does anyone have an idea that
will improve the quality of our Post? Something that may help on Membership? All good and constructive ideas
will be read at an upcoming meeting.
You can send me an E-mail drop off a letter to me or
the Commander.
This
is your Post, too. We care what you think.
As
we enter the new year, we tend to look at our metaphorical rear view mirror and
reflect on what we accomplished during the past year. For the Sons of the
American Legion, we gained a few new members; welcome aboard! Additionally, we
gained new participants at our monthly meetings, which translates to new, fresh
ideas in moving our organization forward. For example. Gary Yahn brought in
watermelons for sale prior to and during the annual picnic. Profits went toward
the cost of the picnic. Recently, we purchased a number of stuffed animals for
donation to Cub Scout Pack 350 and the Lebanon Police Department for inclusion
with their food baskets for distribution to the community. A large portion of
the cost of each stuffed animal was donated to the St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital. Any S.A.L. member out there with
administrative talents? We are in need of a S.A.L. adjutant – if interested,
call me at 541-401-0386 (personal cell number) and I will be happy to explain
the duties thereof. For the coming year, we invite
new and current S.A.L. members to attend our meetings. It will be a great
opportunity for fostering a sense of brotherhood, information sharing, and
overall participating in a community-oriented patriotic organization. For those
interested, we are considering forming a S.A.L. Color Guard and possibly
re-establishing a Drum & Bugle Corps for participation in future parades
and Post functions.
On behalf of the S.A.L., I wish you the best for the
coming year. Happy Holidays!

Ladies –
National has raised our dues by $4.00. We will be voting at our January 17th
General Meeting if we are going to raise our dues to compensate for this loss
of revenue, which pays for our many programs.

Hope you all had a
great Holiday. I hope this year will be better for all the country.
Join us for the bowl games in January and bring your
favorite snacks – the Club will bring in some goodies, too.
We will have a change in the Friday night music, on
January 13th and February 24th we will have Jefferson
Park Band – no karaoke. Trying a new thing and hope you will enjoy this, if not
just let us know.
February 5th brings Super Bowl Sunday with
a “Great Chili Cook-Off.” There will be prize money at stake so come join the
fun, taste the food, and have a drink.
On February 11th we will have T-bone steak
(cooked to order) so hope you know this will take time. Have a glass of wine
and enjoy your meal.
We had a nice turnout for the
October 20th luncheon; 21 veterans and 24 JROTC members. We greatly appreciated the items
donated for the Roseburg Gift Shop for Christmas. These as well as the October
cookies were delivered by Mary Lou and Fred Chewning. The November cookies were
delivered by Ric Olson. Many thanks to all of you. Thanks to the ladies of the 7th
Day Adventist Church and the ladies of the Linn County Grange for the many lap
robes and to Judy Marrs for the flowers that graced the tables during the
luncheon.
The next visitation from the
Roseburg veterans will be on February 16, 2012.
Thanks to these veteran-friendly stores that let us
advertise our Christmas Bazaar – Megafoods, Sears, H&N Chevron, Hyer Convenience
and Shell station, Rite-Aid and Hirum’s Barber Shop.
Thank you to all of our customers who have supported us by attending our steak and shrimp dinner.
We
have made a change in our menu selection to give you something a little
different for dinner.
Starting January 21st we will be serving a dinner of
roast pork and potatoes with tossed green salad, mixed vegetables, apple sauce
and dessert, or if you prefer we will also be serving a shrimp dinner, fried or
sautéed with all the trimmings for the low cost of only $10.00 for ether
dinner.
I hope you all enjoy our change and please give us
some feedback.
Did You Know? Approximately 141 million Valentine's Day cards are exchanged
annually, making Valentine's Day the second most popular card-sending
holiday after Christmas.
